Women’s Suits Tailored, Chiang Mai: a women’s suit is the garment where standard sizing fails most visibly, because the jacket must fit bust, waist and shoulder simultaneously while the trousers or skirt must fit waist and hip. Having it made lets each measurement be satisfied independently, which is why a fitted women’s suit looks like a different category of clothing rather than a better version of a bought one.
A men’s suit is drafted around the shoulder and everything follows. A women’s suit has to satisfy more constraints simultaneously, and they can conflict.
The jacket must sit correctly at the shoulder, close over the bust without strain, and suppress at the waist. The trousers or skirt must fit the waist and the hip, which are independent of each other and of everything above.
Ready-made clothing resolves this by assuming fixed relationships between all of them. If your proportions differ from those assumptions at any single point, the whole suit is compromised, and it usually differs at more than one.
The most common and most visible failure.
A jacket that pulls open at the closure, with the lapels angling away from the chest rather than lying against it, has insufficient bust allowance. The fabric is being asked to travel further than the pattern allowed.
Going up a size adds room everywhere: the shoulders become too wide, the sleeves too long, the waist shapeless. You have solved a shaping problem with a sizing tool, and the result reads as borrowed.
The correct solution is a bust dart or a princess seam placed to your actual apex, adding room precisely where it is needed and nowhere else. That is a pattern decision, made before anything is cut.
If you are ordering one, order trousers. They are more versatile, more comfortable for travel and long days, and read as fully professional in essentially every setting.
A skirt reads as marginally more formal in some traditional environments and is worth having as a second piece.
If you want both, say so at the start. Both pieces must be cut from the same roll, because dye lots vary between rolls in ways that are invisible under shop lighting and obvious in daylight standing next to each other. See women’s skirts and women’s trousers.
Lightweight wool in the 230 to 260 gram range, in an open weave, is the practical answer.
Wool crepe deserves particular mention for women’s tailoring. Its slightly textured surface has real elasticity, so it recovers from creasing across the lap far better than a smooth flat weave, which matters over a long working day. It also drapes beautifully and holds a defined waist.
See the fabric guide for the weight argument.
A jacket you already like the fit of, if you own one. It is the single clearest brief you can give, and it short-circuits a long conversation about preference.
The shoes you will wear, since trouser and skirt length are both set from them.

Breathes, recovers from creasing overnight, holds a press. The default for a reason.220–250 g tropical

Softer to the hand and more drape than plain worsted. A step up in feel, not in heat.~10% cashmere

The coolest thing you can wear, and it creases within minutes. A deliberate look.220–320 g

Because the pattern does not have enough bust allowance for the wearer’s shape, so the front is pulled apart and the lapels point away from the chest. Buying a larger size stops the gaping and makes the shoulders and waist too big. The correct fix is a properly placed dart or princess seam.
A trouser suit is more versatile and more comfortable for travel and long days. A skirt suit reads as slightly more formal in some professional settings. If you are ordering one, order trousers, and consider adding a matching skirt later from the same cloth if it is reserved.
Yes, and it is efficient. Both must be cut from the same roll so the colour matches exactly, so tell us at the order stage rather than later, since dye lots differ between rolls in ways that are invisible in the shop and obvious in daylight.
The shoulder seam should end at the outer edge of your shoulder bone with the sleeve falling cleanly from it. As in menswear, this is the one dimension that cannot be meaningfully altered afterwards, so it is fitted first and the rest of the pattern is drafted around it.
