Finished garments can be shipped from Chiang Mai to most countries. Tailored clothing is normally shipped folded in a garment bag inside a box, and it presses out within a day of hanging. Import duty and taxes are set by the destination country and are the recipient’s responsibility, so check your own country’s threshold before ordering.
This is the option most people overlook, and for visitors on a tight schedule it is usually the right one.
Rushing a garment to catch a flight costs you fittings. Being measured and fitted properly while you are in Chiang Mai, then having the finished piece follow you home, costs you a shipping fee and a wait. For anything with real construction in it, that is a good trade.
It also removes the worst version of this problem, which is collecting a garment an hour before leaving for the airport, discovering something is not right, and having no time to fix it.
Tailored clothing travels folded in a garment bag inside a box. Jackets are folded along the lining rather than crushed, which is the standard way of doing it and the reason a folded suit recovers so well.
On arrival, unpack immediately and hang everything on a proper hanger, ideally a wide wooden one for jackets. Most fold lines fall out within a day. A light steam settles anything stubborn.
One caution: do not attack a canvassed jacket with a hot dry iron. The chest is shaped, and pressing it flat undoes work that was deliberately built in. Steam, or a local dry cleaner.
This is the part worth reading before you order rather than after.
Import duty and tax are decided by your own country and are the recipient’s responsibility. Thresholds vary enormously: some countries let personal imports through under a certain value with nothing to pay, others charge from the first unit.
We are not in a position to advise on your country’s rules and would be wrong to try. What we would say is: look it up before committing, so the number you have in your head is the real total. A charge that arrives unexpectedly on the doorstep sours an otherwise good purchase.
Build in more time than you think you need if the garment is for a fixed date.
A wedding is the classic case. Work backwards from the event, add the making time, add the shipping time, and then add a buffer for customs inspection, which is unpredictable by design. If your garment is for a specific day, tell us the day rather than the deadline you have calculated, and let us do the arithmetic from the actual event.
If something needs a small adjustment on arrival, a local tailor can usually handle it in an afternoon. That is faster and cheaper than shipping a garment back across the world and returning it.
For anything significant, message us first with photographs of the garment on you. Most issues can be diagnosed remotely, and the fix is often simpler than it looks.

Yes. VIP Custom Tailor ships finished garments to customers worldwide, both for remote orders and for visitors who were measured in Chiang Mai but would rather not carry garments home.
Possibly. Import duty and tax are set by the destination country, not by the sender, and thresholds vary widely. Check your own country’s rules for personal imports of clothing before ordering so the total cost holds no surprises.
Tailored garments are folded for transit and will have fold lines on arrival. Hang the garment as soon as you unpack it and most lines drop out within a day. A light steam settles the rest. Do not press a canvassed jacket flat with a hot iron.
Yes, and it is often the best option for anyone on a short trip. You get properly measured and fitted in person, the garment gets the time it needs, and it follows you home.
